Ismail Amla, Executive Vice President of Consulting Advisory and Technology Services at NCR speaks to Mick Ebeling, thought leader, and innovator of technology-driven transformation.
As the founder of Not Impossible Labs, Mick Ebeling is a pioneering force behind the concept of solving the world’s biggest problems with technology.
He started down the path when he heard about a graffiti artist named Tony ‘Tempt’ Quan who had lost the ability to move and could only communicate through an alphabet board using movements in his eye.
Working with a group of talented innovators, Mick created the Eye Writer, allowing Tony to create art again. It became one of Time Magazine’s top 50 inventions of the year and encouraged Mick to create Not Impossible Labs to create and scale technological innovations that make the world better.
Among their greatest successes has been a 3D-printed prosthetic arm that allowed a double amputee in South Sudan to live independently once more. The technology has now been scaled so that limbs can easily be created and applied to serious injury victims.
With Not Impossible Labs, Mick is leading a new wave in which businesses are aligning their operations with their societal values. In doing so, he is showing how a change of mindset can transform the way business leaders see the world.
Everything that is possible today was impossible the day before it was created. He believes that every impossibility we face in this life must also be on that same trajectory. Once you take that on, you become a role player in the transition from impossible to possible. You see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s just a question of how we’re going to get there.
Everything you see is a tool for accomplishing your goal. Empowering people to see that will help them solve the social ills they see in the world or achieve their business goals.
