Dear reader,
More than 138 years ago, NCR transformed commerce by selling the first cash register. It was an innovation that shaped how businesses interact with consumers. Today, NCR is a software- and services-led company that transforms, runs and connects our customers’ technology platforms.
This year, we reflected on our rich history of innovation, our long-standing respect for our employees and business partners, and our core values including trust, honesty and transparency. While thoughtful change is underway, we remain true to the core concepts that define who we are. NCR has a long-standing respect for environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics.
We are both celebrating our accomplishments and transparently sharing our goals and plans for the future through our NCR ESG Hub.
In 2020, we began refreshing our ESG agenda, intertwining our sustainability approach with our overall risk management. This tie to risk management provides a systematic approach to material ESG topics and helps set our ambitious standards. Our Board of Directors oversees this agenda, and our executive compensation will be impacted by its success.
In 2021, the development of our IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Allyship and Storytelling) framework powered our commitment to be a globally inclusive company, where all people are treated fairly, where we celebrate our individuality and encourage everyone to bring their authentic selves to work each day. We began with listening before action. Results from listening sessions have extended to our business units and our Business Resource Groups, helping inform our actions and amplify our values more broadly.
The framework builds on enduring values. For example, our recent Human Rights Campaign award for an inclusive workforce marks 20 years of recognition. IDEAS brings a structure to our values and provides transparency, accountability and measurable results.
When considering our shared environment, NCR started by focusing on learning. We are collecting our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions and will use these as a base for emissions reduction target setting. This adds to our completion of the annual CDP climate change questionnaire that tracks our progress. In April 2022, NCR committed to a Net Zero goal by 2050. We will make bold choices, report transparently and work to continually reduce our impact.
We would like NCR to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable and equitable world. I am proud of our long history and energized by our transformation and future.
Mike Hayford
