AN INTERVIEW WITH
July 7, 2005, I was working as a Detective Sergeant on the Counter Terrorist Command. We had just finished a long week of work and were looking forward to the weekend. There were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks carried out by Islamist terrorists in London that targeted commuters traveling on the city's public transport system during the morning rush hour. Fifty-six people were killed and 784 were injured in the attacks that brought London to a standstill for weeks. It was a sunny Thursday morning; we were in the office in New Scotland Yard having coffee before 9 a.m. when we began hearing the news.
We were immediately dispatched to sites around London to begin the investigation and collect evidence. Working 18-hour days away from home we were tired and weary in the hot weather. Two weeks later, another four coordinated attacks were similarly launched but luckily failed. Four suicide bombers were on the run. Our teams brought these attackers to justice and protected the people of London from further injury.
Having retired from the police, I moved into corporate security and investigations. NCR approached me to work for Global Security as a Senior Investigator for EMEA. I have since brought all my skills and experience to join an iNCRedible team of investigators and security experts, many of whom are ex-law enforcement. We dedicate ourselves to keeping NCR employees safe, protecting NCR's liability and brand. Having served in law enforcement protecting public safety, I was concerned that I would be underutilized in the corporate world, but my newfound passion for the safety and security of our Field Service Engineers has fulfilled my sense of value. I currently serve as Investigations Manager of EMEA/APAC. I lead a hardworking and experienced team now that shares my passion and vision for engineer safety. While much of Global Security work goes unnoticed, NCR recognizes the value.
I came from a U.K.-based retailer and a customer of NCR. Before accepting the job offer, I considered all the new opportunities I would have to grow in my career. NCR is an international company I knew that would provide a challenge, change in direction and greater salary. These were the driving factors in my decision.
Outside of the job description, the location was a big factor in my decision. I asked what location I would be covering and I was pleased to learn that I would be responsible for EMEA. I was also looking for a company that had a flexible work environment and engaging company culture. I was offered to work remotely and was able to transition into a very inclusive environment at NCR. Having these questions answered allowed me to feel very confident in my decision to join the team.
I have been heavily engaged in the integration of the Cardtronics engineering teams into NCR. In my role, I ensure safety and security practices and standards are maintained and transforming policy. I take the best practices from both entities and ensure they run effectively as one so that NCR can continue to transform, connect and run the businesses we serve.
